Sustainable Fashion at Switch to Green

New to the Switch to Green Expo this year is the Sustainable Fashion Clothes Swap and Workshops. Clothes Swaps are raising money for Oxfam's Exchange for Change initiative.

To be a part of Sustainable Fashion at Switch to Green all you need to do is join us at the Expo on the 11th or 12th September at the National Convention Centre, Canberra.

What's happening at Sustainable Fashion:
10.00 - 12.00 - Re-Fashion Workshop: Bring along an item from your wardrobe that no longer fits or is out of date, scissors, needle and thread. Have a chat with the makers who’ll help you see your clothes in a new light. Options are to change buttons, make a dress into a top, make a skirt from trousers, change a hemline.
12.00 - 2.00 - Re-Make Workshop: We’ll have textiles on hand to weave, finger knit, cut and remake into rag rugs, beads, necklaces and belts, the Re Make Workshop is a great opportunity to learn a new technique. All you need to bring with you are: scissors, a needle and thread, and some exciting accessories (including ribbons and buttons).
2.00 - 4.00 - Clothes Swap: Take part in the Switch to Green clothes swap and have fun as you re-vamp your wardrobe for next to nothing. Bring along items you’d love to find at a clothes swap, no more than 6 please. Any items you want to take home just provide a donation to the Oxfam Clothes Swap site on the day.
For more details about what and how to swap, see below ...

What to Swap!

• Items which are likely to be of value to others
• Items which are no longer your favourites
• No underwear or swimwear

How to Swap!
• All donated items will be screened to ensure high quality
• Exchange all donated items for buttons. These buttons will then become your ticket to shop at the clothes swap. New swaps can be paid for by a donation to the Oxfam clothes Swap website.

More about Oxfam's Exchange for Change
Host your own 'Exchange for Change Party' - have fun, share with friends, and re-vamp your wardrobe for next to nothing. You'll be helping Oxfam Australia to stamp out Global Poverty at the same time. Exchange for Change runs 1-30 September 2009. It is a new fundraising event which ask women to host clothes swap parties to raise money for those less fortunate. Women get together anytime or anywhere across Australia throughout September to swap clothing items that are no longer loved, wanted or worn. Voluntary donations from the events will go directly to Oxfam Australia's invaluable work across the globe.
